FAQ

Who exactly are the Metis?

The Métis are one of the 3 Indigenous people of Canada.

Why should I apply for Metis citizenship?

Being a Citizen with Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) will give you a voice in the Nation.   As a Métis Citizen you will have the ability to vote in the MNBC Electoral process and be invited to attend our Annual General Meeting each fall to participate in our legislative process.

Citizenship gives you a connection to your local Chartered Community (SAMA), culture, or your family and ancestors.

What does SAMA do?

SAMA is one of 40 Chartered Communities under the umbrella of MNBC.  Our community facilitates new citizens attending cultural events and meeting Elders or Knowledge Keepers nearest to you.  Our chartered community is dedicated to keeping our culture and language alive.  We hold cultural events, support local youth and Elders and work with MNBC toward securing Metis rights in the province.
